First Round SEF Fellows Announced

On February 24, 2022, Russia expanded its war in Ukraine and began to bomb civilians throughout the country. Millions of people have been forced to flee their homes. Some have left Ukraine entirely, while others have chosen to stay. Ukraine’s scholars, writers, and artists need our support more than ever to continue their work.

For this reason, the Shevchenko Scientific Society in the U.S. announces the creation of the Shevchenko Emergency Fund, which will be used to support scholars, writers, and artists who have been affected by Russia’s war against Ukraine. Funds raised will support the creation of residential and non-residential fellowships:

1) Residential fellowships will be awarded to Ukrainian scholars, writers, and artists residing in the United States who have been affected by the war and need support to continue their work. Recipients of these awards will also work on projects for the Shevchenko Scientific Society.

2) Non-residential fellowships will be awarded to scholars, writers, and artists located in Ukraine who need support in order to continue their work.

The goal of this fund-raising campaign will be to raise over $100,000 to provide $500 to $2,000 stipends for our colleagues affected by this war. Help preserve Ukraine’s intellectual and cultural potential by donating to the Shevchenko Emergency Fund today.

Donations can be made via PayPal Giving (fee-free). Or you can mail a check with “Shevchenko Emergency Fund” in the memo line to:
