On December 10th through 16th,1999, The Shevchenko Scientific Society
hosted the Director of the Ukrainian Language Institute of the National
Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Dr. Vasyl Nimchuk. He was invited to New
York to participate in a Symposium on the PROPOSAL FOR A NEW UKRAINIAN
ORTHOGRAPHY. A select number of linguists and scholars from Ukraine, Canada,
and the US participated in the discussions.

Dr. Nimchuk also spoke at a special workshop for Ukrainian EDITORS,
which dealt with CURRENT UKRAINIAN ORTHOGRAPHIC RULES (pravopys), incl.
changes introduced since 1990.

Dr. Nimchuk spoke about THE NEW PROPOSAL FOR UKRAINIAN ORTHOGRAPHY at
Shevchenko Scientific Society in New York and in Philadelphia.
