The Shevchenko Scientific Society in the U.S. (NTSh-A) is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2026 Ukrainian Studies Research Fellowships. This year the Society received over 100 applications, a number that reflects the extraordinary growth of Ukrainian studies and the urgent interest in research related to Ukraine across academic institutions worldwide. Four fellowships have been awarded to outstanding scholars conducting original research on Ukrainian history, culture, society, and the contexts and impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The recipients are:
Hanna Dosenko is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University of California, Irvine. Her research traces the pathways of fallen Ukrainian soldiers and the work of those who recover and identify them.
Halyna Hleba is an art historian and curator focusing on contemporary Ukrainian art and visual war studies. She is the co-founder of The Wartime Art Archive and a Non-Residential Scholar at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on artists who join the military and how that experience transforms the visuality of war.
Hanna Zaremba-Kosovych is a PhD in Sociology and a Senior Research Fellow at the Ethnology Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Her research focuses on social justice, disability studies, and qualitative methods, including work on the rescue of people with disabilities during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Dimko Zhluktenko is an active-duty Ukrainian soldier, drone pilot, and defense technologist. His fellowship research explores how Ukraine transformed the modern battlefield through drone warfare and how Ukrainians are documenting that history in real time.
The Shevchenko Scientific Society is committed to advancing Ukrainian scholarship, higher education, and cultural preservation. Your financial contributions help sustain these efforts by funding scholarships, fellowships, publications, and more. With your help, we can continue offering grants to further support of academics and those who dedicate their work to Ukraine.
