SEF Fellows 2025 Announcement

The Shevchenko Scientific Society in the U.S. (NTSh-A) is pleased to announce the second round of fellowship recipients from the Shevchenko Emergency Fund. Fellowships have been awarded to fifty Ukrainian scholars, writers, and artists affected by Russia’s war against Ukraine. The fellowships include a cash stipend of $2,000, a six-month affiliation with NTSh-A, a shevchenko.org email address, and a public profile page. Fellows are encouraged to participate in the intellectual life of the Society virtually through its events, roundtables, lectures, conferences, and publications, and by interacting with its members in the U.S.

The recipients live in all parts of Ukraine, such as Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, and 3 grantees are located within the US. At least 5 are internally displaced persons (IDPs), and 3 fellows are serving in the army. The largest groups by field of study include history, literature, education, natural sciences, political science, and theatre.

    Project: Printing the book, “Carved Stone in the Architecture of Rus-Ukraine in the late 10th-first half of the 13th century.”
  2. Olena Atlasiuk
    Mathematician at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
    Project: Researching boundary-value problems, with a blend of theoretical sophistication and potential for practical application.
  3. Ostap Bohoslavets
    Biologist at the Gorgany Nature Reserve
    Project: Preparing an exhibit in Dnipro on “providing translation to the voices of wood-inhabiting fungi dwelling in the dead logs and branches of the Nadvirna outskirts, thus making them relevant to political discussions concerning the future of Carpathians.”
