Марія Олійник - композиторка, випускниця Львівської Музичної Академії та Королівської Консерваторії в Гаазі (Нідерланди). Співавторка опери «Ukraine-Terra Incognita». Викладачка катедри Композиції Львівської Музичної Академії ім. М. В. Лисенка. Стипендіятка Президента України, Міністра Культури та Спорту Республіки Польща (Gaude Polonia), уряду Нідерландів (Nuffic).

Під час зустрічі презентуватимуться оркестрові твори, написані композиторкою протягом останніх п’яти років, в основу яких покладено мелос української пісні. Слухачі зможуть познайомитися із уривками з опери «Ukraine - Terra Incognita» (2020), присвяченої оперному співаку та воїну Василю Сліпаку, а також усім мужнім воїнам-захисникам України.
Зустріч із композиторкою Марією Олійник
Марія Олійник - композиторка, працює у напрямку сучасної класичної музики. Навчалась у Львівській Музичній Академії(клас Юрія Ланюка), а згодом у Королівській Консерваторії в Гаазі (Нідерланди), поміж іншими у Луї Андрісена, Мартайна Паддінґа, Яніса Киріакідеса. В минулому переможниця композиторських конкурсів, учасниця численних композиторських мастер-класів, стипендіатка Президента України, Міністра Культури та Спорту Республіки Польща (Gaude Polonia), уряду Нідерландів (Nuffic), а у 2019 академічного ґранту від фундації Фулбрайта, який саме зараз реалізовує при Університеті Стоні Брук. З 2016 по 2019 викладачка кафедри Композиції Львівської Музичної Академії ім. М. Лисенка. Співавторка музики до опери Ukraine-Terra Incognita, 2020, offline прем'єра якої відбулась у Львівському Національному Оперному театрі у жовтні 2021. Активна учасниця численних українських та міжнародних музичних проектів та фестивалів.

May 13, 2023Don't Close Your Eyes: Ukrainian Poets Respond to the WarMaya Chhabra’s translations have appeared in The White Review, Cardinal Points, and Poetry Travels. She is the author of a novel in verse, Chiara in the Dark, and several children’s books including Stranger on the Home Front. Her short stories and poetry have appeared in Strange Horizons, PodCastle, and various anthologies.Carolyn Forché has published five books of poems, most recently In the Lateness of the World, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2021. Her works also include translations, anthologies, and a memoir. She is a professor at Georgetown University.Lev Fridman is a speech-language pathologist based in New York City. His writing, translations and reviews have appeared in various publications. He is co-editor of Quiet Spiders of the Hidden Soul: Mykola (Nik) Bazhan’s Early Experimental Poetry.Marie Howe is the author of Magdalene: Poems; The Kingdom of Ordinary Time; What the Living Do; and The Good Thief. She is also co-editor of In the Company of My Solitude: American Writing from the AIDS Pandemic. She has served as Poet Laureate of New York State, is the poet in residence at The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, and a chancellor of the Academy of American Poets.Olena Jennings is the author of The Age of Secrets, the chapbook Memory Project, and the novel Temporary Shelter. She is translator with Oksana Lutsyshyna of Nobody Knows Us Here, and We Don’t Know Anyone by Kateryna Kalytko., as well as Vasyl Makhno’s Paper Bridge. She co-edited the anthology Ukrainian American Poets Respond, and she is the founder and curator of Poets of Queens.Dan Kraines teaches creative writing at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He is the author of a chapbook, Licht, and his work can also be found in The Adroit Journal, The Cortland Review, and Epiphany. Vasyl Makhno is the author of fourteen collections of poetry, most recently, One Sail House; a book of short stories, The House in Baiting Hollow; a novel, The Eternal Calendar; and four books of essays: The Gertrude Stein Memorial Cultural and Recreation Park, Horn of Plenty, Suburbs and Borderland, and Biking along the Ocean. Makhno’s works have been widely translated, and he is the recipient of the Kovaliv Fund Prize; Serbia’s International Povele Morave Prize in Poetry; the BBC Book of the Year Award; and the Ukrainian-Jewish Literary “Encounter” Prize.Hanna Melnyczuk’s artwork has appeared at Art Space, The Mahoney Gallery, The Gallery at the Piano Factory, the Danforth Museum, Tufts Gallery, Brush Gallery, Fountain Street Gallery, New Art Center, and more. She has curated two art exhibits: Agni Magazine of Emerging Artists, and a traveling exhibit of Ukrainian artists’ works, Don’t Close Your Eyes. Hanna teaches at University of Massachusetts Lowell. Wanda Phipps is the author of Mind Honey, Field of Wanting: Poems of Desire, and Wake-Up Calls: 66 Morning Poems. She curated readings at the Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church, and is a founding member of the theater company Yara Arts Group.Victoria Redel is the author of four books of poetry and five books of fiction, most recently Paradise and the novel Before Everything. Victoria has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, The NEA, and the Fine Arts Work Center. She is professor of Creative Writing at Sarah Lawrence College. Virlana Tkacz heads the Yara Arts Group and has directed forty original shows at La MaMa Experimental Theatre in New York, as well as in Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Bishkek, Ulaanbaatar, and Ulan Ude. At the Society yesterday. Fabulous readings by American authors of Ukrainian war poems in superb translation. Beautiful and haunting, they represent another step forward to having this literature take its rightful place in the English-speaking world.
